Bobcat in winter, Yellowstone

This exclusive Yellowstone predator workshop is possibly the best North American wild predator photo opportunity on the planet.

Yellowstone wolf in winter

3 dedicated photographers, 1 guide with decades of experience finding and photographing predators, 1 full sized SUV so everyone has a door and window, 1 snow coach. This will give you the best opportunity to capture wild predators in their natural habitat surrounded by the splendor of Yellowstone winter.

Jess's Yellowstone predator photography work has appeared publications such as National Geographic, National Wildlife, Sierra, Smithsonian, Defenders of Wildlife and many more.

This trip is timed to give you the best chance to capture images of wild predator behavior as they go about their life cycle. The holiday rush will be gone, the temperature historically drops at this time which means the wild hunters will be busy looking for prey. Since this is just the beginning of the lean times of winter our subjects will still have their best coats of the year.

Coyotes fighting

To help insure success in capturing unique images of these elusive subjects Jess will be in contact with his network of Yellowstone locals to gather information on predator locations each day. As with all wildlife there are no guarantees but past trips have been very successful in photographing predators during this time using techniques and the technology developed many years in the field.

Our hunting ground will be all of the vast winter wilderness of Yellowstone's interior and the wildlife wintering areas of the north range. From the frozen Hayden Valley to the moody steam filled Firehole basin and on to the vastness of Lamar Valley we will spend rich full days searching for and photographing predators. From dawn to after dark we will be in the best locations to find our quarry. This is a exercise in fast lens, sensitive cameras and special searching techniques to find and photograph these predators when they are most active.

One of the keys to making this trip successful is the ability of each photographer to have a window and a door. Wildlife predator action can happen by surprise without time to find one of the required winter parking areas and walk back to where the action was. With our roomy full sized SUV's you will be set up and ready the instant the action begins. No waiting for the other van passengers to get their gear together and exit the single door. You will be prepared and shooting. Each photographer will have bean bag for photographing out the window when it is safe to do so. From roomy warm vehicles, bean bags, and a passive night vision device for searching we will be ready when the predators are active.

You should plan on arriving in Bozeman Montana the day before the trip so you will be prepared to be picked up before dawn to begin our journey to Yellowstone. Every morning we will start our day before first light searching for predators, lunch will be at a local restaurant or with a filling sack lunch when we are in our chartered private snow coach. On our last day we will photograph in the early morning in Yellowstone then work our way back to departing flights in Bozeman.

Lodging, snow coach, instruction, guiding (three photographers per guide and luxury SUV), transportation, breakfast and lunch included.
